Bright Young Chefs

Est    2016

Come & experiment with colour, flavour and texture.

Our fun filled workshops will have you using all your senses to create mouth-watering yummy meals...

We at Bright Young Chefs believe that cooking & baking with children can provide many beneficial learning experiences, here are a few.

  1. Fine Motor Skills: They get to develop their fine motor skill which is the control over the small movements of the hands and fingers, as well as the small muscles of the face and mouth (tongue) and feet. However, the focus is usually on developing the skills of the small muscles in the hands. Tasks such as holding a spoon, mixing, beating, shaking, pouring, rolling or cutting will help to develop your child’s fine motor skills.

  2. Mathematics: Your child will gain experience in counting and recognising numbers when measuring.

  3. Reading: They get to read and follow the method of a recipe. They also expand their vocabulary as they learn the names of the ingredients and equipment needed.

  4. Communication/Team work: Children can learn to share and how to take turns. Then when the cooking/baking is over, they enjoy eating together and socialising.

  5. Science: when cooking or baking we expose the Children to mini experiments e.g. liquid cake batter turns into a solid.

  6. General Knowledge: They learn about different foods and their origins e.g Pizza comes from Italy.

  7. Senses: We encourage your child to look, smell, feel, and taste different ingredients. They use the ears to listen by following the instruction.

To sum up, cooking can be great fun for all children. It can be a great bonding experience between children and a great tool for learning. It also helps to improve the use of their senses. There is the additional benefit that a child is more likely to try new foods, for example vegetables, having been involved in the preparation.

Weekly Workshops

Does your children enjoy cooking and getting their hands dirty?

Of course, they do! Bright Young Chefs will be hosting workshops for kids over the age of three. Bright Young Chefs warmly welcomes little master chefs to their specially designed kitchen, where the little master chefs will be given the chance to bake/cook up a storm and leave the mess for someone other than Mom to clean up. Yay! The cost includes the use of all the equipment and ingredients needed, refreshments, aprons (for use only) and takeaway containers.

Holiday Club

Tis the season to be jolly and one thing that really gets us into the Christmas spirit is a spot of festive baking!

Our little chefs get to dress the part with an apron and chef hat. In our 3 hour workshop our Little Chefs get their very own work station and equipment were they get to measure, pour, mix, whisk and loads more. Their goodies are then baked, decorated… boxed and ready to be taken home to be shared with family.

Testimonials

This is one of the best activities for children in Joburg. Tanya is outstanding in how she explains and conducts all the activities. My son loves going to BRIGHT YOUNG CHEFS and I love how he learns lots of things while exercising a variety of motor skills. The venue is superb and it is clearly evident that a lot of thought goes into the content of each class. It’s also a great place for kids to socialize and the classes can accommodate a range of age groups. Book a class - you’ll be happy you did.

What awesome fun for a kid to have! Tanya has set up such a unique opportunity for kids to appreciate the love of cooking and baking, with the added learning of reading, numbers, new flavours, etc.

My son is so proud of the Christmas Tree Brownies he made, and would love to come back. Awesome experience! See you next year for more opportunities to cook and bake.
